With Captain’s Tales, Orebić Kicks Off the Post-Season

A new food and wine event on Saturday, September 5, at Mimbelli Square brings together what Orebić has been known for for decades – the sea, captains, wine and great food.

What would Orebić be without its captains? And what would captain’s tales be without excellent wine and delicious bites? Kapetanske storije is a new food and wine event taking place in Orebić for the first time this Saturday, September 5.

It won’t just be about eating and drinking. The idea is a little broader – to take something that has been part of life here for centuries and tell its story in a contemporary way.

The main event will take place at Mimbelli Square from 7 to 11 p.m. The League Against Cancer will prepare dishes once enjoyed by Orebić’s captains. Around ten exhibitors will offer cured meat products, oysters, desserts and Pelješac wines at promotional prices. There will also be music, a quiz, and for anyone who wants to show off their creative skills, a drop-in workshop where you can paint your own tote bag.

But Kapetanske storije won’t wait until the evening. The programme starts at 9 a.m. with a guided tour for those who want to discover some of the lesser-known stories about Orebić and its captains, while at the same time, the youngest visitors will take part in the Kapetani mašte workshop in Geta.

With Kapetanske storije, we are opening the post-season, just as we have been opening the pre-season with the Pelješac Captains Festival for the past five years. For now, this is a one-day event, but with the involvement of local restaurants, winemakers, boat owners, family farms and local creatives, it has the potential to grow into a multi-day event.

Orebić is beautiful in September, and Kapetanske storije are a great reason to discover it at this time of year as well.
