Walking trail: Circle around Orebić

27. 02. 2023.

What is the best way to get to know Orebić on foot? The new thematic trail Circle around Orebić will certainly be interesting to all nature lovers and those eager to explore Orebić.
The trail is circular and you can start at any point, left or right, or up or down. We started from the main beach of Trstenice towards the north along the Braće Radić Street towards the Stankovići settlement. Before arriving in Stankovići, stop by the Studenac fresh water spring.
From Stankovići, we head west, following the macadam road, passing vine, olive and fig groves. Then we enter the shade of a pine forest, passing another spring, Ruskovići, on the way. We come to the Church of Our Lady of Carmen, which was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Nearby is the small church of St. Rocco, and the remains of the duke’s (captain’s) palace. This is an ideal place to rest, enjoying the peace and the sounds of nature in the cool shade of cypress trees.
We descend and reach the church and monastery of Our Lady of Angels, built at the end of the 15th century. This offers one of the best vantage points of the Pelješac Channel, and the islands of Korčula and Mljet. The monastery also contains a museum space that is open to visitors. If you want more information about the monastery, click here.
From the monastery, we go down the paved road for about three hundred meters, then turn right into the protected cypress forest that leads to Hotel Orsan. We pass through the western part of the hotel to the promenade, and from the hotel we return all the way along the coast to the starting point. On the way along the coast, we pass by the hotel, the ferry port, enter the historical centre of Orebić full of beautiful captain’s villas and we pass by the Maritime Museum. There are a large number of cafés, restaurants, taverns and pastry shops along the way, ideal for taking a break after a long walk.
The entire trail is about 9 km long, and it will take you two to two and a half hours to walk the entire trail.
Note: the track is unmarked, on www.peljesacoutdoor.hr you can download a gpx track with information about the type of surfaces, height differences, photos and descriptions.
