Orebić Maritime Museum
Orebić Maritime Museum
Sea maps, sea books, travel documents, ropes, pictures of famous sailing ships, ship tools… – the Orebić Maritime Museum keeps the memory of captains and sailors alive. Here you will learn that Orebić had up to 33 transatlantic sailing ships, as well as its own shipyard Škver, after which this part of the town is still called Škvar by the locals.
In three collections: archaeological, maritime, and historical books, you will discover the history of Orebić and Pelješac, all about the famous captain’s families and the brave exploits of the Pelješac sailors and captains.
One of them, Captain Jozo Šunj, was even awarded a gold pocket watch by US President Abraham Lincoln, as a sign of gratitude for saving 22 American sailors in a storm off the coast of Newfoundland.
