An impressive three national championships in Viganj this year!

16. 06. 2023.

Once again, there will be no shortage of adrenaline in the southwest of Pelješac this year as well. The wind won’t stop blowing in Viganj – this year the mistral brought as many as three national championships. Of course, we are talking about windsurfing!
The first competition is the Hungarian Open Championship from 18 to 20 June 2023 in the IQFoil discipline, which is also an Olympic discipline. The organizers of the championship are Club Bofor from Viganj in cooperation with MSZA from Hungary. Many Olympians are expected to perform at this championship, while the biggest star is Hanna Simon in the women’s competition.
From 15 to 18 July 2023, the Integra Czech Championship in the slalom discipline will be held, and from 20 to 23 July 2023, the Integra Foil Course Championship memorial Adam Horky organized by the Czech Windsurfers Association.
Last in the summer competition season, from 10 to 13 August 2023, the Croatian Open Windsurfing Championship will be held, organized by the Peliška jedra association! Many competitors are expected, and the most famous among them are multiple Croatian champion Erico Marotti, Olympian Luka Mratović and Palma Čargo.
Local and international windsurfing stars are once again coming back to Viganj
In Viganj, windsurfing competitions began back in the 1980s, when the regatta for the Cup of Yugoslavia was held in 1986. The two biggest competitions were the 1990 European Funboard Championship and the 2013 Formula World Windsurfing Foil Championship, when 150 of the best surfers from around the world competed.
The inhabitants of Viganj have long been known for their excellent organization of championships
Apart from the mistral, there are other key factors for the development of Viganj and windsurfing in Viganj. This small town has about a three kilometer stretch of beach and beach space. Viganj has three windsurfing schools, where you can learn to windsurf and/or kitesurf or rent equipment. Although the town has only 280 inhabitants, almost all of them are focused on tourism and sports.
A special energy dominates Viganj
The caterers are a story onto themselves! In Viganj, everything is a little different, so here you will be surprised by the rich offer of food and drinks that is different from the usual for the Adriatic.
In Viganj, everything is in function of adrenaline sports, and yet it is dominated by a relaxed atmosphere. If you decide to travel to the south of Croatia, visit Viganj – now it’s a little closer thanks to the Pelješac bridge that was opened last year.
Even if you are not a windsurfer, you can always enjoy swimming or simply drink cocktails in the shade of a local beach bar while watching the windy championships.
